Saudi-French Partnership Advances with Focus on Tech and Innovation Beyond Oil

by admin477351

The economic partnership between Saudi Arabia and France is evolving as both nations enter a new phase of trade relations, largely influenced by Saudi Arabia’s strategic move to diversify its economy beyond its traditional reliance on oil. Notably, in 2025, France’s exports to Saudi Arabia reached close to $4.5 billion, while imports from the Kingdom were around $3.7 billion. This marks a departure from earlier years when Saudi Arabia typically enjoyed a trade surplus with France.

This shift can be attributed in part to a decrease in French imports of oil and petroleum products. France has been broadening its energy sources, and the relatively low oil prices in 2025 have further diminished the value of energy imports from Saudi Arabia. This trend reflects the broader global movement towards reducing dependency on fossil fuels and exploring alternative energy options.

Simultaneously, there has been a notable increase in Saudi demand for a variety of French goods, spanning sectors such as aerospace, industrial equipment, pharmaceuticals, technology, as well as perfumes and cosmetics. This diversification highlights the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 strategy, aimed at reducing reliance on oil revenues and fostering the development of new industries. Through this initiative, Saudi Arabia is transforming its economic landscape, encouraging investment, and expanding economic activities across non-oil sectors.

In light of these changes, French companies are increasingly exploring opportunities within Saudi Arabia, tapping into the expanding market for goods and services outside the oil sector. The growing trade diversity not only strengthens bilateral economic ties but also underscores the success of Saudi Arabia’s efforts to implement its Vision 2030 goals, positioning itself as a dynamic player in the global economy.
