Despite Brexit, industry representatives emphasize that the UK remains an integral part of the EU’s automotive sector. They argue that vehicles, batteries, and components produced in the UK should be accorded the same status as those manufactured in EU member states. The current proposal, they warn, could negatively impact European manufacturers operating factories within the UK, by potentially restricting access and complicating supply chains.
British automotive leaders have raised concerns that excluding UK-manufactured vehicles from the European market could pose significant challenges. They stress that the UK and the EU are each other’s largest trading partners in cars and automotive parts. Additionally, several major European automakers have production facilities in the UK, underscoring the highly interconnected nature of the supply chain.
The industry argues that limiting UK involvement could undermine European competitiveness and disrupt existing investments.
