White House Confirms Trump’s Intervention After Thailand and Cambodia Trade Fire

The White House said Friday that President Donald Trump spoke with leaders in Thailand and Cambodia following new outbreaks of violence along their shared border. The calls come amid growing fears that the peace deal he helped broker may collapse.

The ceasefire, signed on October 26, was touted by Trump as one of several global peace efforts he believed deserved recognition. Yet Thailand stepped away from the agreement after a landmine blast wounded its troops just days later.

Tensions intensified again when the two countries accused each other of cross-border attacks midweek. Cambodia reported that a civilian had been killed, deepening concerns among international observers.

Malaysia, which played a central role in negotiating the truce, was also contacted by Trump as part of the broader diplomatic effort. The agreement itself was signed in Kuala Lumpur, emphasizing Malaysia’s importance as a mediator.

Though territorial disagreements date back more than a century, this year’s confrontations have been among the most violent in recent memory. Five days of clashes this summer resulted in 43 deaths and displaced hundreds of thousands.
