A significant collaboration between Saudi Arabia’s King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) and the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office has been launched to bolster food security in Yemen. With a combined investment of $10 million, the initiative aims to assist vulnerable communities by enhancing their resilience over the long term.
The project, which will receive equal contributions of $5 million from each partner, is set to be executed by the United Nations World Food Programme. It will focus on the Yemeni governorates of Al-Mahrah, Hadramout, Aden, Al-Dhale, and Lahij. This strategic effort will provide conditional cash transfers to improve food access, rehabilitate productive infrastructure, and facilitate families’ transition from emergency aid to self-sufficiency.
In addition to direct financial support, the initiative encompasses vocational training and assistance to local authorities. These efforts aim to improve governance and ensure the sustainable management of community resources, promoting a more stable local economy.
The agreement is part of a broader humanitarian agenda led by Saudi Arabia through KSrelief, which has undertaken more than 4,400 aid projects worldwide since 2015. These projects, valued at over $8.5 billion, have reached 113 countries, reflecting Saudi Arabia’s commitment to global humanitarian assistance.
