China is urging the United Kingdom to foster a fair and non-discriminatory business environment for Chinese companies, as both nations aim to enhance cooperation and bolster bilateral ties. This call was made during the 11th China-UK Strategic Dialogue held in Beijing, where Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi expressed China’s desire for the UK to facilitate favorable conditions for Chinese enterprises, thereby supporting the ongoing development of their relationship.
Following recent high-level engagements, Wang highlighted the resumption of exchanges and collaboration across various sectors. He stressed the significance of maintaining open dialogue, broadening practical cooperation, and endorsing multilateralism in the face of rising global uncertainties. The dialogue underscored the pivotal roles of China and the UK in tackling global challenges and fostering a more balanced global governance system.
UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper affirmed Britain’s dedication to sustaining stable and constructive relations with China. She pointed out that enhanced dialogue and cooperation have become increasingly vital as both countries navigate a complex international landscape. Cooper also reiterated the UK’s enduring stance on the Taiwan issue, emphasizing the importance of ongoing engagement with China while managing differences through dialogue.
Economic and trade cooperation was a prominent theme in the discussions, with both parties exploring prospects in emerging fields such as science, technology, artificial intelligence, climate initiatives, and innovation. As part of her visit, Cooper engaged in meetings in Beijing and Shenzhen, focusing on expanding collaboration in these sectors.
